Moving Out: How do I give proper notice?

So, you've decided you want to move out, but don't know how to give your notice...

Once you decide that you'd like to move out, you are required to give notice 20 days before the end of the month in which you plan to move out. For example, if you plan on moving out on January 31, then notice is required no later than January 11. For a move-out on April 30, notice is due on April 10th.

Rental periods always run from the first day of the month to the last day of the month--move-ins happen on the 1st and move-outs happen on the 31st. If you stay through part of a month, you are required to pay for the whole period.

The law requires notice to be in writing. However, this is the modern ages, email counts as 'writing.' So, simply email your property manager and let them know that you would like to move out.

If you do move out early, in some cases, we can refund you your rent for the appropriate number of vacated days. This happens in situations where we already have a new tenant lined up and that person wants to move in early. We will prorate their rent and refund you that amount of rent. If you are able to move out early and would like to take advantage of this, please alert your property manager.
